Young woman sexually assaulted at Birkenhead Park

Merseyside Police has launched an investigation following an allegation of sexual assault of a young woman in Wirral last night, Wednesday 20 April.

The incident is reported to have happened in Birkenhead Park at around 9.40pm.

An investigation is underway and forensic, CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out in the local area.

Detective Inspector Leanne Toole said, “The young woman is currently being supported by our specially trained officers.

“The investigation is obviously in the very early stages as we seek to establish the full circumstances of what has taken place.

“We are currently examining a number of lines of enquiry including CCTV and forensic and potential witnesses who were in the area around Birkenhead park last night.

“I would appeal for anyone who believes they could assist the investigation to contact us via @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 as a matter of urgency.”
