A woman who robbed an 86-year-old man at his home in Birkenhead has been sentenced.
Angela Burns, 53, of Birkenhead, was sentenced to six years imprisonment followed by four years extended licence at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, Monday 14 November, after being found guilty of robbery.
On 22 August this year, Burns knocked on the door of her victim before pushing him backwards, resulting in the pensioner sustaining a head injury.
After forcing her way into the property, Burns searched the pockets of a jacket that was hanging up in the hallway and stole £7 in loose change.
Following a police investigation and CCTV enquiries, Burns was arrested by officers and charged with robbery.
Detective Constable Andy Uren said, “This was a nasty and unprovoked assault on a defenceless elderly man. We simply will not stand by and allow people to harm and threaten the safety of others in our community.
“I want members of the public to feel reassured that we will do everything within our powers to find the people responsible for committing such cowardly crimes and bringing them to justice.”
