Wirral Ways ‘Change Grow Live’ awarded outstanding in latest CQC report

Drug and alcohol misuse treatment service, Wirral Ways, run by Change Grow Live, has received an “outstanding rating” following an inspection from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The inspection found that Wirral Ways had a “strong person-centred culture”, with staff treating clients with “dignity, respect, compassion and kindness.”

The staff were reported to be “committed to working collaboratively and developed innovative and efficient ways to deliver more joined-up care to people who use services and relevant services outside of the organisation.”

Wirral Ways is a free drug and alcohol service for adults, young people, carers, those impacted by misuse across the Wirral. People can access support from the service through GP practices and community hubs.

This is the first time the CQC has visited the service since 2019, when it was also awarded an “outstanding” rating.

This latest report shows continued commitment to providing high-quality support in the local community.

Andrew Cass, service manager at Wirral Ways – Change Grow Live, said, “This positive CQC report is a testament to the hard work the team carries out day in and day out. We have continued to build on our previous success during a period where we faced added pressures from the pandemic. Through this, we have ensured people still received high-quality, and importantly, compassionate support.

“Our success is based upon client-led engagement, placing people that use our service at the centre of everything we do. Our dedicated and diverse staff group are so supportive of each other, focused on listening to what people need and delivering the services that make a different. I am honoured to lead the team here and extremely proud of our achievements.”

Mellissa Scarlett, service involvement coordinator at Wirral Ways, said, “A big part of my role is making sure the service users can be heard, so on a daily basis, we encourage people to be open and honest about the support they are receiving, so we can continue to build on our success.

“Because of this open dialogue, we have been able to incorporate changes and ensure it fits the needs of those using it. The team at Wirral Ways should be so proud of this rating. It shows the huge impact the service is having on so many lives.”
