This is the birkenhead.news weekly round-up of police activity in and around Wirral during the previous seven days. Due to there being no round up last week, we have included news items from the last 14 days.

Family issue tribute to ‘beautiful and bright star’ Elle

The family of Elle Edwards have released the following tribute:

There was no one as beautiful as our Elle May, her looks, her laugh and the way she would light up a room as soon as she walked in.

She had this way about her that as soon as you met her you just instantly fell in love with her, everyone that met Elle knew how special she was.

Over 20 arrests made in Wirral after officers target criminals

Officers in Wirral have made over 20 arrests in an ongoing proactive policing operation to target criminals and protect those living in the area.

56 stop searches were conducted and six vehicles were also seized.

One incident included two teenage boys who were arrested by officers on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent in Upton Meadow Road at around 6pm on Monday 2 January.

Police will be ‘relentless’ in bringing those responsible for murder of Elle Edwards to justice

Following the dreadful incident at the Lighthouse Inn, Wallasey Village, on Christmas Eve detectives and uniformed officers have been working round the clock to progress the investigation and disrupt those involved in serious organised crime in Wirral.

Two people have been interviewed in relation to the murder of 26-year-old beautician Elle Edwards, and officers have arrested four men on suspicion of possession of a bladed article, a public order offence and drug offences, 10 stop searches were also conducted as part of ongoing patrols in Wallasey and the surrounding areas.

Chief Constable Serena Kennedy pledged that Merseyside Police will be relentless in finding those responsible for Elle’s murder and bringing them to justice.

Man arrested and drugs seized following incident in Egremont

Merseyside Police has arrested a man and seized suspected drugs following an incident in Egremont in the early hours of Tuesday 3 January 2023.

At around 1.25am, officers sighted a suspicious male on Larch Road, and he was detained for a search. A bag of white powder was found. A further search of an address nearby found further white powder, bags of suspected cannabis, and other paraphernalia.

A 31-year-old man from Egremont was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs. He was taken to a police station for questioning.

Police and community leaders continue reassurance campaign in Wirral

Officers in Wirral are continuing a proactive policing operation to target criminals and protect those living in the area.

On Thursday 5 December, officers were joined by Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner Emily Spurrell, Dame Angela Eagle MP, and representatives from Wirral Council in Wallasey Village as part of the ongoing reassurance campaign.

They spoke with residents and business owners in the roads surrounding the village centre to listen to any concerns they may be having at this time.

Next of kin appeal – Stephen Davies

Can you help trace the next-of-kin of a person from Wirral who has passed away?

Please share and help the Coroner’s Office find the next of kin of a man from Noctorum who recently passed away.

Stephen Davies, 55, of Moira Sephton Court, Noctorum, sadly passed away on Friday 23 December. There are no suspicious circumstances.

High visibility police presence in Wirral ongoing to reassure local communities

A high visibility police presence remains in Wallasey as part of an ongoing commitment to targetting and disrupting criminals involved in serious and organised crime, and reassuring local communities.

A murder investigation was launched on Christmas Eve following the fatal shooting of Elle Edwards at the Lighthouse Inn in Wallasey Village and detectives are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry.

While police are doing everything they can to bring those responsible to justice, they also understand how frightening incidents such as these can be to people living in the local community and they are encouraging anyone with concerns or questions to engage with officers or visit the mobile police station.

Man jailed for committing over 30 burglaries in Wirral and Liverpool

A man has been sentenced for a string of commercial and residential burglaries across Wirral and Liverpool city centre.

Callum Boscoe, 25, of no fixed abode, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday 6 January and was sentenced to four years in prison.

Boscoe had been charged with more than 30 offences, including burglaries, attempted burglaries and thefts.

Two arrests made in connection with Noctorum shooting

Merseyside Police has arrested two men in connection with an injury shooting in Wirral on Sunday 18 December.

Armed police were called to Newark Close in Noctorum on the evening of 18 December to reports of gunshots.

A man subsequently presented at hospital with an arm injury. He has since been discharged from hospital.

PCC condemns ‘utterly despicable’ Christmas Eve shooting

Merseyside’s Police Commissioner has condemned the “utterly despicable and cowardly” shooting on Christmas Eve which killed beautician Elle Edwards and wounded four others.

Emily Spurrell is joining Merseyside Police’s Chief Constable, Serena Kennedy, and community leaders from Wallasey to urge anyone with information to do the right thing and speak out.

Emily said, “It was devastating to wake up on Christmas Day to learn of the tragic and senseless death of Elle Edwards.”

Wallasey man charged with drugs offences

A man has been charged with drug offences in Wirral.

Officers working on an investigation within Operation Toxic – Merseyside Police’s initiative to infiltrate County Lines drug dealings – stopped a vehicle in the West Kirby area on Thursday 5 January and arrested a man.

Aaron McMahon, aged 32 of Wallasey has been charged with two counts of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs (Heroin and Crack Cocaine).
