Moreton man jailed for eight years for firearms possession

A man from Wirral has been jailed for eight years following the discovery of two viable firearms inside an abandoned car.

Stephen Garrett, 40, of Moreton, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, 13 June, after he was found guilty of two counts of possessing a firearm.

On Wednesday, 13 April 2022, officers seized a suspected stolen Ford Galaxy car after it was found abandoned on Stanley Close, in Kirkdale.

Nurse sacked for taking paracetamol suspended from profession for six months

A nurse who ended up in court after taking tablets to treat a headache from the hospital she worked at has been suspended from the profession.

Covert CCTV footage at Arrowe Park Hospital found Francesca Morgan, 33, taking tablets from a medication room that had been intended for patients. Popping the tablets led to Morgan being convicted of theft at Wirral Magistrates Court in December 2022.

Now, following an investigation by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), she has been hit with a six-month suspension.

Driver jailed for 16 weeks

Andrew Canavan from the Bromborough area received 16 weeks in prison for driving whilst disqualified and his vehicle is to be crushed.

Police officers were informed of a disqualified driver who was continuing to drive despite being convicted five times in the last year and having served a prison sentence.

The vehicle was located and officers used a device to deflate the tyres and stop it safely without a pursuit.

Ellesmere Port drug dealer jailed for over four years

A county lines drug dealer who was involved in the supply of cocaine into Ellesmere Port has been jailed for over four years.

Keaton Hughes appeared at Chester Crown Court on Friday, 7 June, where he was sentenced to four years and six months in prison.

The 20-year-old of Ellesmere Port, had earlier admitted to being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs (cocaine).

Nurse struck off for sex with vulnerable teen

A nurse who groomed a vulnerable teenage patient before having sex with her has been struck off after attempting to deny it.

During a two-week period between August and September 2022, Keith Stott, who was registered as a nurse at Miriam Medical Centre in Birkenhead, saw an 18-year-old patient in the minor injuries service. After exchanging messages on Instagram, Mr Stott began a sexual relationship with the young woman.

After safeguarding concerns were raised, Mr Stott denied having sex with the woman who had required the morning after pill according to her foster mother. Following a subsequent fitness to practise investigation by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) he has now been struck off.

Vincent Brown, aged 64 years, of Gordon Court, Greasby, sadly died on Tuesday, 28 May.

Elizabeth Kelly, 66, of Bebington Road, Birkenhead, sadly passed away at her home on Saturday, 1 June.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.
