This is the birkenhead.news weekly round-up of police activity in and around Wirral during the previous seven days.

‘Pride and joy’ bike stolen from Oxton garage

During the night of Thursday 12 May – Friday 13 May, a garage in Shrewsbury Road, Oxton. was broken into and two pushbikes stolen.

The owner said, “My pride and joy bike, which I used almost every day got stolen, so I’m proper gutted. If you hear anything and could help keep an eye out, please let me know if you see my bike.”

The bike pictured above may have had the basket removed and the other bike is red. Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information is asked to contact @MerPolCC on Twitter or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook or call 101, quoting reference CIT270698. 

Arrest following Moreton stabbing

A 36-year-old man has been arrested after an assault in Moreton.

At around 9.50pm on Sunday 8 May officers were called to a report that a man was assaulted at an address on Meadfoot Road.

It was reported that the victim left the property and walked into a pub on Netherton Road before heading to Moreton Cross.

Woman found dead in Birkenhead flat named

A woman who was sadly found dead at a property in Birkenhead last night, Thursday 12  May, has been formally identified as 62 year-old Karen Wheeler.

Police were called to a property on Vittoria Close at around 7.15pm. Paramedics attended but Mrs Wheeler was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. A post mortem is due to take place to establish the cause of death.

Man shot in leg in Beechwood

Merseyside Police is appealing for information following an injury shooting on Wednesday 11 May.  

At around 10.40pm a 17-year-old male presented at Arrowe Park Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg. The victim remains in hospital in a stable condition. 

Following enquiries, a scene was established on Fender Way, and evidence consistent with shots being fired was found.

Next of kin appeal – Thomas Preston

Can you help trace the next-of-kin of a person from Wirral who has passed away?

We are appealing for information to help the Coroner’s Office trace the next of kin of a Wirral man.

Thomas Preston, aged 75, sadly died at his home on Cherry Tree Road in Moreton on Wednesday 11 May.

Two-week firearms surrender begins in Merseyside

Merseyside Police is appealing for people to hand over guns and ammunition as part of a two-week national firearms surrender.

Through targeted operations and activity firearms incidents in Merseyside are the lowest they have been for 20 years, but one incident is one too many and we are appealing for the public’s help to make sure more weapons are out of circulation.

Forces across the UK are asking members of the public to hand in unlawfully held or unwanted weapons to prevent them from ever getting into criminal hands.

Man jailed for County Lines drugs supply in Wirral

A man involved in supplying drugs in Wirral as part of a ‘County Lines’ drugs supply has been sentenced.

John Bromilow, aged 27, from North Wales, was arrested by Project Medusa officers on 4 February 2022, investigating a County Line drug supply into Birkenhead.

He appeared at Liverpool Crown Court and was sentenced to 21 months for the offence.
