Drugs and cash seized as two arrested in Birkenhead

Two men were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences after officers on patrol spotted a man acting suspiciously in Birkenhead on Monday 7 February.

Officers on patrol in the Beckwith Street area of Birkenhead at around 8.05pm spotted a man on a bike acting suspiciously and signalled for him to stop. He rode away but was stopped nearby by another patrol.

Following a search, a quantity of cannabis was seized.

Moreton drug dealer jailed for seven years

A Wirral man has been jailed for his part in a conspiracy to flood the streets with £225,000 worth of cocaine and cannabis – after being identified by police from a selfie he sent another criminal.

Jon Hassall, 23 years, of Moreton was sentenced to seven years in prison when he appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Wednesday 9 February.

Hassall pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply class A and B drugs (cocaine and cannabis.)

£4m of extra investment secured for victim support services & crime prevention initiatives

The PCC has marked bringing £4m of new funding into the region to help cut crime and provide greater support for vulnerable victims.

Emily Spurrell has secured all the additional investment since taking office in May 2021.

It includes £1.2m of funding to invest in new specialist advisors supporting survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence, as well as funding for dedicated support services to provide life-changing practical and emotional support.

Three arrested following incidents in Birkenhead

Merseyside Police has arrested three men following two incidents in Birkenhead when a member of the public and a Police Community Support Officer were threatened.

At around 1.50pm on 1 February, it was reported two men had threatened a man in his 50s in JD Sports in Birkenhead. The man made off from the store to safety and was not hurt during the incident, but left shaken.

Following enquiries, officers detained two men and searched two properties.  Cannabis, an electric bike suspected of being stolen and a machete were seized at one address, and cannabis, another electric bike and a significant quantity of cash in the second.

Birkenhead man charged with drugs and firearms offences

A Birkenhead man was charged with firearms and drug offences on Thursday 10 February. 

At around 7.40pm on Wednesday 9 February, police executed a warrant at an address on Carlton Road.

A firearm and a quantity of Class A drugs was recovered.

Body of man found near Birkenhead Priory

The body of a man has been found on the Wirral Circular Trail near Birkenhead Priory.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said, “At around 11am on Monday 17 January we received a report of a body of a man on the Wirral Circular Trail path, close to Birkenhead Priory.”

The North West Ambulance service attended and the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Birkenhead man sentenced to 16 years for sexual assault and false imprisonment

A Wirral man has been jailed for 16 years on Friday 11 February, for sexual assault and false imprisonment. 

Daniel Jones, 47, of Borough Road, Birkenhead was sentenced to 16 years, with a further eight years on licence, at Liverpool Crown Court after admitting two counts of sexual assault by penetration, two counts of false imprisonment, threats to kill and assault of an emergency worker.

Jones was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life and received a lifetime restraining order against his victim.

Free weekly kids football training at the Oval

Local officers hold weekly football training sessions at The Oval Sports Centre, Bebington.

The free football training sessions are available for all children aged 11-16 years old.

There is no subscription, no fee, just turn up! These events are held every Friday between 17:30-19:30 and are supported by Wirral Borough Council and Mid Wirral Crime Prevention Panel.

Free bike marking in New Brighton this week

Officers will be offering FREE Bike Register bike marking at the Charlotte’s Brightside centre, off Molyneux Drive in New Brighton, CH45 1JT on Wednesday 16th February 2022 between 3 and 5pm.

Speed checks on Barnston Road

Officers have been conducting speed checks on Barnston Road in Heswall.

A police spokesperson said, “We stopped a number of drivers and advice was given. Please remember to drive with care and pay attention to all road signs, especially speed limits.”
