Wirral mum achieves hairdressing dream by opening her own salon

A talented Wirral hairdresser who has built up a base of loyal customers is celebrating as she prepares to welcome people into her first permanent salon at Poppyfields in Saughall Massie.

Greasby based mum-of-two Suzanne Roberts, aged 32, has hairdressing in her DNA as she began helping at the salon where her mum worked from being a young child.

Having built up a successful career as a self-employed mobile hairstylist, Suzanne took a leap of faith by putting herself forward to run the in-house salon at Alpha Living’s new Poppyfields extra-care development, set to open on 19 July.

Already a well-known face to residents at sister scheme Alpha Court in Wallasey, where her nan lives, Suzanne has styled people living there one day a week for six years.

Her new base at Poppyfields, ‘Suzanne Roberts Hair, Nails & Beauty’, will be open for Poppyfields residents as well as local customers looking for haircuts, colouring and styling plus nail, beauty and waxing treatments.

Suzanne said, “I’m so excited to be putting the finishing touches to my own salon at Poppyfields. I’m fortunate to have built up a great business over the past few years and although moving to Poppyfields is a huge step, it just felt right. I already feel like part of the Alpha family, to be honest!

“I get on well with everyone and am really looking forward to getting to know all the new residents of Poppyfields and building up friendships with them.

“The modern salon is also open to the local community, and I’ll be bringing my existing client base along too, so I will be catering for all from young children and adults to trendsetting seniors. I’m sure it’ll have a great buzz about it and a wonderful community feel. Everyone is welcome.”

Poppyfields is a development of new homes for Wirral residents looking for a lively community coupled with care and support to live independently. Its self-contained apartments will provide independent living for people over the age of 55 but with the reassurance of on-site care and support available 24 hours a day, if and when needed.

Alpha Living’s chief executive, Graeme Foster, said, “It’s a real pleasure to be welcoming Suzanne into Poppyfields to run the on-site salon. She is a well-loved and trusted face at Alpha and is already in high demand at our sister development in Wallasey.

“We’re thrilled to be able to support a local business and to have such a great service right on everyone’s doorsteps. Our ethos at Alpha is all about thriving, independence and fun and Suzanne embodies this completely. We’re wishing her all the luck as she embarks on this new step, and we thank her for all the care and attention she’s already put in to making this a great, welcoming place for our new Poppyfields residents.”

The Poppyfields development is open to people living in Wirral or with a local connection. The homes would be suitable for anyone struggling to manage in their own home and needing a little help to stay independent. They could also be an option for those who feel:

  • Where they live now is no longer suitable and makes them feel insecure or lonely.
  • Those living in residential care who would prefer a self-contained apartment with care and support.
  • Anyone who has an assessed care and support need or feels that they would benefit from the care and support service available.
