Wirral Met College hosts visit from FE Commissioner Shelagh Legrave

On Tuesday, 19 March, Wirral Met welcomed the Further Education Commissioner, Shelagh Legrave to college with an opportunity to showcase it’s commitment to excellence in education, to meet students and staff, and to share best practices in the further education sector.

In her role as Further Education Commissioner, Shelagh is responsible for overseeing and improving the quality of further education provision in England.

With a wealth of experience in education leadership and governance, Shelagh is dedicated to ensuring that all students have access to high-quality education and training opportunities.

During her visit to Wirral Met’s Conway Park campus, Shelagh was welcomed by members of the college’s leadership team including Principal Gill Banks and students and staff from the college’s special education provision, Prep for Life. Shelagh had the chance to observe Wirral Met’s specialist facilities including the purpose-build Independent Living Suite where students can learn the skills they need to live and work independently.

Shelagh continued her tour at Wirral Met’s award-winning construction campus, Wirral Waters. Here, she engaged with students and staff, the tour provided Shelagh with first-hand experience of industry-standard facilities and innovative programmes that Wirral Met College offers to its students, preparing them for success in their chosen fields.

Reflecting on her visit Shelagh remarked that “it was a great college to visit, working hard to support a deprived community with a focus on both raising aspirations and skills. Thank you Gill Banks for hosting me.”
