Wirral Libraries challenge children to get reading this summer

Children across Wirral are invited to take part in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge which starts on Saturday 9 July.

The challenge is aimed at children aged two to eleven and is delivered by Wirral’s Libraries Service in partnership with national charity The Reading Agency and the Science Museums Group.

This year’s theme involves six fictional characters, the Gadgeteers. The characters – brought to life by children’s writer and illustrator Julian Beresford – use their curiosity and wonder to understand the science behind a whole range of interests, from fashion and technology to cooking and music.

Children are encouraged to read six books and, along the way, collect stickers with a medal and certificate when they complete their challenge.

The free event runs over the summer holidays.

To take part visit your local library and let them know that you would like to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge. They will help to get you signed up for Gadgeteers, find books to borrow, and provide you with fun reading activities to get you started.

Further information on Summer Reading Challenge and how to sign up can be found on the council’s website – https://www.wirral.gov.uk/libraries-and-archives/whats-wirral-libraries/summer-reading-challenge-2022-children
