Wirral girl selected for England boxing team

A Wirral schoolgirl has been selected to represent England to box in the European Schools Boxing Championships in Maribor, Slovenia In August.

Letitia McKee, a year 8 pupil at St John Pleasington High School, came through a tough selection process to get the nod.

Letitia, who boxes for The Birkenhead Venture Boxing Club, won the England Boxing National Schools Title for the second year running, one of three National Champions from the club last season, joining Leon Burns Jnr and Jess Bethel.

Speaking of the two-times National Champion, Venture Head Coach Sean Trodden said, “We are all extremely proud of Letitia as she has worked tirelessly for years now.

“She has now got what she fully deserves and we hope she can now go on to medal, competing with the best in Europe.”

Letitia was the only person from the Merseyside & Cheshire Region to be selected and one of only fifteen nationally.

Letitia’s father, Kenny, is also one of the club’s Coaching Team. He said, “We are not only close-knit as a family but also as a club and we have all worked very hard towards this.”

With such a good team behind her, the future looks very bright for this young boxer. Letitia flies out to Slovenia with the rest of The England Team on 15 August.
