A Wirral schoolgirl who was selected to represent England to box in the European Schools Boxing Championships in Maribor, Slovenia has become National Champion of England and number two in Europe.

Letitia McKee, a year 8 pupil at St John Pleasington High School, Bebington. came through a tough selection process to get the nod.

Letitia, who boxes for The Birkenhead Venture Boxing Club, won the England Boxing National Schools Title for the second year running, one of three National Champions from the club last season, joining Leon Burns Jnr and Jess Bethel.

Letitia travelled to the European Schools Boxing Championships in Maribor and competed against Europe’s best. She was drawn against Ireland in the first round, winning unanimously. In the quarter-finals against Ireland, she again won unanimously.

Having progressed to the last four, she beat the Italian opponent without dropping a round in the whole competition.

In the Schools European Final against Ukraine she lost on a points decision to take the Silver Medal and become number two in Europe.

Venture Head Coach, Sean Trodden, said, “We are all extremely proud of Letitia as she has worked tirelessly for years now.”

Letitia was the only person from the Merseyside & Cheshire Region to be selected and one of only fifteen nationally.

Letitia’s father, Kenny, is also one of the club’s Coaching Team. He said, “We are not only close-knit as a family but also as a club and we have all worked very hard towards this.”
