Wirral care home residents celebrate National Fish & Chip Day

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Caldy Manor care home in Caldy had a fantastic time celebrating National Fish & Chip Day yesterday, Fryday 4 June, surely one of the best days of the year!

Residents enjoyed a fish & chip lunch from the award-winning Marigolds in West Kirby. Volunteer, Annette Franz and Activities Lead, Debbie Thomas had been busy fund-raising to be able to treat residents and staff. It was a real treat and everyone celebrated with a glass of Buck’s Fizz. Later on residents enjoyed a quiz where they were tested on fun fish & chip facts.

Caldy Manor provides Residential care, respite care and dementia care and the General Manager is Hannah Roberts. She said, “It wasn’t just the residents that were excited when we found out there was a National Fish & Chip Day, the eyes of all our staff lit up too – fish & chips are such an iconic dish, everyone loves them and it’s even better when there is a good excuse to eat them!”

Kathleen Lawrence, resident at Caldy Manor commented, “We’ve all had such a lovely day. I haven’t heard of National Fish and Chip Day before but it’s always been my favourite – you can’t beat fish & chips as far as I’m concerned!”

In addition to National Fish & Chip Day, the care home has a varied life enrichment programme that keeps residents active and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental, and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.

Caldy Manor is making their home as safe as possible and is ensuring that all new residents and staff are vaccinated before moving in or working in the home.
