West Kirby RNLI inshore lifeboat’s assistance was requested by HM Coastguard at 9.57am yesterday (14 June) following a telephone call from a runner who had spotted what was thought to be a body in the River Dee.
The volunteer crew at West Kirby RNLI lifeboat responded to a report that an unidentified object was floating in the estuary west of Little Eye.
RNLI West Kirby Lifeboat volunteer crew quickly responded and the inshore lifeboat ‘Seahorse’ was launched. A search of the area was carried out supported by the local HM Coastguard team and RNLI Lifeguards who are currently stationed at West Kirby beach.
Following a thorough search of the area, no trace of a person or object could be found and it was agreed that all parties should be stood down.
Richard Diamond, RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager for West Kirby’s RNLI Lifeboat, said, “It’s always difficult to ascertain exactly what has gone on in every incident so we would always encourage people to phone 999 and ask for the Coastguard should they believe that someone is in danger on the water.”
