West Cheshire Football League round-up, 11 May 2024

Tuesday 7/5/24 – Newly crowned Go3Day West Cheshire Division Three champions, Cammell Laird 1907 Res, recorded their 22nd win of the season after romping home 7-2 against Poulton Vics.

A Kieran Hughes double was supplemented by further efforts from Adam Larway, Ben Crossley, Dale Atherton, Luke Burns, and Jayden Jones as the Shipbuilders cruised to a comfortable victory. The visitors had Derek McShane and Jack Waddicar in reply.

A goal from Joel Kelly earned West Kirby Res. a point from their 1-1 stalemate with third-placed promotion contenders, Chester Nomads Res., who hit back via Curtis Hall and in  Division Two, despite a goal from Harry Wooledge, Aintree Villa Res. capitulated 3-1 at home to replies from Neston Nomads‘ Callum Spence, George Kelly, and Harry Monaghan.

South Liverpool kept their outside chances of lifting the Youth Division title alive thanks to a 5-2 win at Maghull, confirmed by efforts from Finlay Batterton (3), Callum Grines, and Steve Swindells. The hosts had Sean Douglas and Bradley Johnson on the mark.

Wednedsay 8/5/24 – Division One runners-up, Maghull, completed their penultimate game in the West Cheshire League on a winning note, reflected by a 6-1 result at Chester Nomads, highlighted by a hat-trick from Jacob Till. Further efforts from Darren Brannigan (2) and Sam Lawrenson completed the scoreline. Charlie Jones netted Nomads’ consolation.

The local derby between Heswall and Capenhurst Villa was settled 1-0 in Heswall’s favour courtesy of an own goal.

The match of the day in the Youth Division brought together current leaders, Cammell Laird 1907 and nearest rivals, Maghull B, who emerged 2-1 victors with Nathan Moffitt and Adam Howes finding the net and with two games remaining, that result left Maghull B just a point adrift of Lairds. Theo McDowell scored for the hosts.

Thursday 9/5/24 – Lewis Chapman struck twice and was joined on the scoresheet by John Britton and Jayden Murray as Capenhurst Villa Res. savoured a 4-1 result over Great Sutton in Division Three. Sam McAdam netted for the visitors.

Friday 10/5/24 – It was celebration time for Helsby who lifted the Runcorn & District FA Cup when ace marksman, Lee Turkington (2) and Alex Jones applied the finishing touches to seal a 3-0 decision over local rivals Runcorn Sports.

WEEKEND ACTION – Ellesmere Port Town’s Division One status was secured for another term, after Ben Summers and Seb Bogles bagged a goal apiece in Saturday’s 2-0 eclipse of Aintree Villa, which consigned neighbours Vauxhall Motors Res. to Division Two football next season.

Danny Bulayima and Dom Earle scored doubles and a further effort from Joel Burns cemented Newton‘s 5-0 win at Capenhurst Villa but efforts from Joe Ford, Dean Nunn, and Liam Grealis weren’t enough, as Heswall dipped 4-3 at home to replies from Maghull‘s Sam Burke, Jacob Till, Darren Brannigan, and Luke Kilcullen.

In Division Two, efforts from Andy Noonan and Kenny Mahon failed to prevent Higher Bebington Kelma from finishing their season on a high when replies from Amr Badhawi (3), Yusuf Moshin, Peter Webster, Adam Shelton, Noah Risby, and Jamie Walton anchored champions, South Liverpool Res. to an 8-2 triumph.

Aaron Rainbow (2) and Ben Hawitt netted for West Kirby but it was the hosts, South Sefton Borough, who profited with Josh Panther (2), Dan Spear, and Matty Rennie scoring to clinch a 4-3 home result.

It was a similar tale of woe for West Kirby‘s Division Three second string who had a Kyle Bennett penalty to show for their efforts, after losing 2-1 to Great Sutton who sealed the issue thanks to a Joe Stevenson strike and an own goal.

South Liverpool enhanced their Youth Division title claims following a 5-0 rout of West Kirby Utd. which saw efforts from Finlay Batterton (2), Niall King, Alex Pile, and Jack Colburn but a goal from Maghull‘s Elliot Barry failed to stop his side from going down 2-1 to replies from Runcorn Linnets‘ Finlay Harwood and Zack Parker.
