Warriors Pentathlon & Athletic Club offers a welcoming home for young athletes

Warriors Pentathlon & Athletic Club, founded by Ronan & Sarah Kearney, is the first ever Pentathlon Club in Merseyside and offers a welcoming home for any young athlete who would like to try a wide variety of endurance-based sports.

Now that the governing body of Modern Pentathlon has replaced horse riding with obstacle racing to enhance inclusivity, it is an opportune moment to join a pentathlon club and explore the diverse range of activities it offers.

Sarah Kearney, the lead coach at Warriors, has been named Wirral Coach of the Year twice and has coached numerous athletes to 37 International vests in the past decade. Her coaching has also resulted in a World Silver in Biathlon as well as the all-time Merseyside records in the Half Marathon and Marathon.

The club has developed a well-proven pathway that allows beginners to follow a structured program to pursue these goals, but it is also an inclusive club open to children and adults of all abilities, with one member picking up a medal in the Para Laser Run event earlier this year.

Key to the success of the clubs’ coaching model is a friendly and fun atmosphere, where athletes are encouraged to try multiple events in order to find their preferred sport. Chatty runs, and mixed ability groups are encouraged to ensure the kids have fun whilst using the beautiful open spaces of the Wirral as their playground.

Successful launch Since launch the club has already notched up some notable successes, as athletes have enthusiastically joined up and encouraged their friends to join.

Already at over 60% of the target membership, the club is now on a recruitment drive to reach 100 members by Easter.

At the recent primary school’s cross country race against Liverpool, Sefton & Southport, club members won an eye-catching 3 of the 4 races, which led to a lot of interest.

Any young athlete interested in joining just needs to register at www.runwirral.uk Coming up In March and April, athletes will be competing in the English Schools Biathle finals; the National Primary Schools Cross Country Championships, the first round of the English Fell running Championship, and the National Laser Run finals in Bath.
