Wallasey care home celebrates success at Great British Care Awards

Staff at Edgewater care home in Seacombe are celebrating colleague Jane Lockwood, after she won the Social Care Nurse Award for the Northwest & Northern Ireland region at this year’s Great British Care Awards (GBCAs).

This award acknowledges the important role that nurses working in the care sector have in promoting the emotional, physical, psychological and social health of the people they support.

The judges noted that Jane “embodies person-centred practices with a foundation rooted in sound nursing values, leaving a profoundly positive impact on both residents and their families”, with her award win a recognition of how she had demonstrated a clear passion for making a positive difference in the lives of the people she supports and going “above and beyond every single day”.

This win comes after Exemplar Health Care also celebrated five other colleagues at GBCA in other regions over the course of this month, with three awards and two commendations accumulated across the organisation.

Meanwhile, in the North West Awards, alongside Jane, the Edgewater team had three other finalists, whilst sister homes Cheshire Springs (Ellesmere Port) and Ribble View (Preston) had a finalist each.

Edgewater complex care service supports adults living with complex mental health needs and neuro-disabilities, including Huntington’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.

The Great British Care Awards are one of the highest honours within the care sector, and competition is fierce, with hundreds of entries in each region. Awards in 21 categories pay tribute to those individuals who demonstrate outstanding excellence in their field of work.

As a regional winner, Jane will advance to the national final, where ten regional winners compete to be crowned the national Social Care Nurse at the grand finale in Spring of next year.

Reacting to her win, Jane Lockwood, Clinical Nurse Manager at Edgewater said, “I am beyond honoured to have received this award. I feel that it’s a profound recognition of the passion we put into our work at Edgewater every single day while shining a light on the vital role nurses play in the social care sector.

“At Exemplar Health Care, we work hard to bring joy and comfort to the people we support, so that we can make every day better. It’s the little things, like a smile or a chat, that make a big difference. This award is a reminder that anyone can make a positive impact on someone’s life, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Ruth Foster, Managing Director of Core Operations at Exemplar Health Care, said, “This award is a remarkable achievement for Jane, and a very proud moment for Edgewater. It’s a testament to Jane’s dedication to her work and her commitment to putting the people we support first in pursuit of providing the highest standards of nursing care and support.

“The team and I are exceptionally proud of her and she is a wonderful ambassador for Exemplar Health Care and what our values mean in practice.”
