Wallasey and District Sunday Football League round-up, 26 March 2023

A very tense but evenly matched Second Division Cup Final was decided by a penalty shoot-out after Shore Villa Athletic and West Kirby Athletic fought out a 1-1 draw in a game well marshalled by the match officials.

First blood went to West Kirby as Tom Cameron opened the scoring in the first five minutes but the even first half saw Tom Rowlands level matters in the 30th minute for Villa.

The second half was also an equal affair as chances were created but missed by both teams as they sought the elusive winner. Both keepers made saves in the penalty shoot-out which resulted in West Kirby taking the trophy with a 4-3 verdict.

Man of the match awards selected by the opposing teams and went to Stephen Ryan (SVA) and Jack Davies (WKA).

In the First Division Cup semi-finals, both games provided hard-fought encounters but saw JASGA FC narrowly beat Bromborough Town 3-2 and One O’Clock Gun eliminate PLCCFC in a penalty shoot-out after drawing 1-1 in normal time. Scorer for PLCC was Dan Brown in the 90th minute, but they lost the shoot-out 2-0 as Gun’s keeper saved three spot kicks.

JASGA came from 0-2 down against Bromborough Town, as a Stuart Speed double and a Jack Fletcher single wiped out goals from Andrew Simpson and Sonny James to get them into the final.

Only one fixture was played in the MES Ltd First Division which saw Vineyard go level top after beating Wallasey Wanderers 2-0, with goals from Gary Winders and Ryan Slater.

In the Moreton Alarms Supplies Second Division, the battle for promotion continued as AFC Shore Villa defeated Shore Villa 2-1, with goals from Nathan Lewis and Joe Robinson which leaves them second with games in hand. Mark Houston netted the consolation for the home team.

Two goals from Jamie Mitchell plus singles from Josh Walters and Jason Stephens gave Barnston FC a 4-0 success over Park Royal.

Also running out 4-0 winners were North West Harriers as they beat Bromborough Athletic thanks to efforts by Callum Murphy (2), Josh Sefton, and Luke Roberts.

A goal apiece from Mike Jenkinson and Alex Clarke earned Farmers Arms a 2-0 victory over Ellesmere Port Red Lions and they remain in the promotion places.

Oxton Celtic took the spoils versus Wallasey Wolves in a 5-1 win thanks to efforts from Harry Sutton (2), Casey Ford (2), and Joe Dehenin. On target for Wolves was Greg Williams.
