Merseyside Police has confirmed that an unexploded ordnance device found in West Kirby has been safely detonated yesterday, Saturday 11 September.
Emergency services were called to the Veolia West Kirby Recycling Centre at about 3.20pm after the device was found in a skip.
Customers and staff at the centre were moved off-site and a cordon was established as a precaution. No residential properties were affected.
The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team attended and carried out the safe detonation of the device, a suspected World War II mortar, on West Kirby beach.
A police spokesperson said, “We would like to thank the community for their patience while we dealt with this incident.”
