Lairds’ recent away games have resulted in two defeats, causing them to fall into the bottom five of the North West Counties First Division South.
Lairds played Abbey Hulton United on Tuesday evening in Staffordshire, where despite their valiant efforts, they suffered a 2-1 loss. Kalif Koura scored for Lairds but the team lamented missed opportunities in a closely contested game.
Then on Saturday, a trip to Cheadle Town resulted in a 2-0 defeat against the fifth in the table team, but if official decisions had been correct the score could have been so different.
The opening goal was conceded when a foul on Ross Waring should have been given to Lairds. In the second period, a dubious head collision went unpunished as the assistant referee failed to report the incident to the match referee.
However, an early goal after the restart increased the pressure on Lairds to gain anything from the game, despite the graft from Mike Speed, Ryan Smith, and Kalif Koura. Had the chances created been finished by Jack Kelly and others, then the result could easily have been a victory.
Holders Lairds entertain Higher Bebington Kelma on Tuesday evening in the Wirral District FA Senior Cup with a 7.30pm kick off.
Then on Saturday, they are away again, this time at top of the table Stockport Town with a 3.00pm kick off.
