Two arrested in connection with Netherton shooting

Two people have been arrested in connection with a shooting in Netherton last month.

On Friday, 5 January, Merseyside Police received a report of a firearms discharge on Harrops Croft and following enquiries police traced a 26-year-old man who had been shot in the leg.

On Tuesday, 13 February, officers re-arrested two men in connection with the shooting. 

Following a search of an address in Walton a quantity of suspected cocaine was found.

A 30-year-old man from Anfield has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm without a certificate, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life/enable another to do so, and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

A 24-year-old man from Litherland has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life/enable another to do so and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Both men remain in police custody to be questioned.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Atkinson said, “Although we have made two arrests, we are continuing to appeal for anyone with information to please come forward.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has CCTV or doorbell footage, or any information which could help us with our enquiries to please contact us. Likewise, any motorists who were in the area that may have captured the incident on dashcam footage then please get in touch.”

Detective Chief Inspector Atkinson added, “Reducing gun crime on Merseyside is the priority for the force and is not possible without the information we receive from the public to rid the streets of firearms and find those involved in serious organised crime.

“We relentlessly pursue those suspected as being involved in gun crime and we need the public to be our eyes and ears and tell us what they know so that we can take positive action.”
