Two arrested for serious city centre assault

Police have arrested two men following an assault in Liverpool City Centre in the early hours of Saturday night, 6 July.

At around 2.40am, emergency services were called to Victoria Street to reports of a man in his 40s with serious arm injuries, believed to have been sustained inside OMG nightclub. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries to both arms, which required surgery.

Following enquiries, two men were detained nearby a short time later.

Two 24-year-old men, both from Walton, were arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding, and taken into custody. They have been conditionally bailed pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Neil Dillon said, “We are still working to establish how and for what reason the victim sustained these serious injuries, in what was a distressing incident for both the victim and any witnesses.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who saw the incident, or has any information to assist this investigation.

“Violence has no place in our night-time economy, and we work hard alongside premises and the local authority to ensure that people can enjoy everything Liverpool has to offer.

“Tell us what you know and we will take action to keep Liverpool City Centre a safe place to visit, and put those who use violence before the courts.”
