Tranmere’s ‘Super White Christmas’ returns for fifth year

Tranmere Rovers Football Club has announced that for the fifth year in a row, they are running ‘Super White Christmas’ which will involve collections, food hampers, parties and fun events to help underprivileged people in Wirral enjoy their Christmas.

In line with the Club’s community strategy, to be a true community delivery Club, the Super White Christmas Appeal will help both children and adults enjoy some of the festive experiences which many take for granted.

Last year’s event was altered slightly due to the COVID-19 pandemic but because of the incredible generosity of the Super White Army, the club was able to supply over 400 food hampers and presents to those struggling. This year with things going back to normal, the club can return to more traditional ways but make it bigger and better than ever.

This year’s activities will include:

A Christmas party for children aged 6-14 will take place on Saturday 18 December at 12pm prior to the home match against Leyton Orient and will include a day of activities, a ticket for the game. Every child will meet Father Christmas and go home with a gift from the Club.

Since opening the Beechwood Recreation Centre in May 2021, the club had a high level of activity and engagement with the children in the area and therefore will be hosting another Christmas Party on 23 December for those children.

On Sunday 26 December, before the home game against Barrow AFC, Tranmere will be hosting an event for adults in need. The club is inviting adults who are suffering from loneliness, homelessness or would just need cheering up over the Christmas Period who they think would benefit from this event.

The club hopes to give adults who might not be able to access a hot meal, someone to talk to or a safe place over Christmas with something to look forward to.

The event will be hosted for up to 50 adults at the Tranmere Rovers Recreation Centre, Borough Road, from 12-2pm. There will be a hot meal, entertainment, and a gift given to each adult in attendance, as well as a ticket for entry into the Tranmere Rovers vs Barrow AFC game held straight after the event. The adults can join in with as much or as little as they would like to.

On Christmas Day, care leavers will be welcomed to Prenton Park for Christmas dinner and some festive activities to enjoy.

Tranmere Rovers Vice-Chair, Nicola Palios, said, “One of the fantastic things about Tranmere is the way that Club and supporters come together to those in our community who need a hand, and this is never more evident than at Christmas.

“Every year, the Club, with the support of the SWA, makes sure that people who are suffering real financial hardship, those who have recently left local authority care, those who are homeless or isolated and lonely, are not forgotten.  With your help, every year we allow hundreds of local individuals and families to enjoy the little things that most of us can take for granted over the Christmas period.

“We have planned a jam-packed programme this year, of childrens’ Christmas parties, hampers, Christmas dinners and Boxing Day festivities, but we can only do it with the amazing support of the SWA, who year after year donate time and money to make it happen.”

“Finally and continuing on from last years food hamper deliveries we are working in partnership with the Tranmere Rovers Trust to deliver 200 food hampers to families who are in financial difficulty or individuals in isolation.

“We are also looking for donations of non-perishable foods, warm clothing, toiletries and cash donations to be given out at the community events as part of this initiative and towards our food hampers, and again, you can drop items off at the Tranmere Rovers Club Store or the Recreation Centre.”

To cover costs and any additional gifts, the club is openly looking for a sponsor to get involved in this appeal and to support what they are doing to help our local community that may not get to experience what some of us do at this time of year.
