Tranmere visited Hartlepool this evening for a 7:45pm kick-off in their fourth game of the 2022/23 League Two season.
Ahead of the game, Rovers will have felt emboldened following their performance against Gillingham, with goals from Elliot Nevitt, Ethan Bristow and Josh Dacres-Cogley sealing a 3-0 victory.
Match Report: Hartlepool v Tranmere Rovers
Tranmere Rovers had to settle for a goalless draw away at Hartlepool this evening.
Tranmere were favourites based on this season’s form with Hartlepool having notched up four winless matches.
Kick off followed a minute’s silence for former Hartlepool player Lenny Johnrose, who died earlier this week aged 52 following a battle with motor neurone disease.
At 15 minutes, Hartlepool dropped a clanger and nearly gifted Tranmere the lead. A simple, short back pass was intercepted by Hemmings, but to the relief of the home fans, keeper Killip saved the day.
Ner the half-hour mark, the roles were reversed and it was Hartlepool’s chance on goal. Ryan Hastie saw only keeper Doohan between him and the goal, but Doohan’s chest denied his effort.
Hartlepool came out refreshed for the second half and certainly had more of a spring in their step. Wesley McDonald created a space in Tranmere’s box, but his shot was high and wide.
Another sloppy Hartlepool back pass should have resulted in Rovers taking the lead. However, Elliott Nevitt paused just a little too long and he sliced his shot wide.
Tranmere had to settle for one point, giving them four points in the last two games. But, we’re only saying that because it sounds better than four points in four games.
Rovers now sit firmly in the middle of the table in 13th position, six points behind League leaders Salford.
Rovers visit Newport County for a 3pm kick-off on Saturday August in their next 2022/23 League 2 fixture. They then host Newcastle United at Prenton Park in the second round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday 24 August for a 7:45pm kick off.

It just reiterates what we’re all thinking, we need to bring in attacking options. We seem solid enough everywhere else and are atleast trying to play a bit of footy. We need a solid finish to this transfer window!#trfc #swa— Phil Gandy (@phil_g_87) August 16, 2022

Not awful tonight. Looked solid. We need options going forward. Morris is a few months at least away, we can’t rely on Hemmings and Morris. We need some quality up top. Midfield was non existent tonight. #trfc #swa— SWA Midlands (@MidlandsTrfc) August 16, 2022
