An 84th-minute goal from Danny Cashman secured three points for Rochdale as they beat Rovers 1-0 at the Spotland Stadium this afternoon.
The Dale had the first chance of the game at the 10-minute mark when Jake Beesley forced a save from Joe Murphy with a shot that was heading for the top corner.
Shortly after, Tranmere’s 1449 fans who travelled to Rochdale nearly saw their side take the lead as Josh Hawkes curled an effort that ricocheted off Rochdale’s far post, before being cleared to safety.
Tom Davies and Nathaniel Knight-Percival were forced to deal with dangerous crosses into the Tranmere box, as the first half ended without any goals.
Elliott Nevitt struck a right footed shot from a cross by Josh Dacres-Cogleyfrom the centre of the Rochdale box, but was denied a place on the scoresheet
The game was then stopped for several minutes when Tranmere keeper, Joe Murphy, received treatment after a collision with Peter Clarke. Murphy was stretchered off, to be replaced between the sticks by Ross Doohan.
Rochdale kept the pressure on throughout the second half, and Tranmere failed to make any real progress in the Dale half.
However, at 80 minutes Rovers had two attempts on goal, the first being a header from the centre of the box by Peter Clarke and the second being a left-footed shot from Kieren Morris, both of which were blocked.
Tranmere went behind at 84 minutes when substitute Danny Cashman slotted a right footed shot from the centre of the box into the bottom right corner of Doohan’s net.
Tranmere host Salford City in their next League 2 fixture on Saturday 18 September for a 3pm kick-off.

2 goals in 630 minutes of play. Keith Hill binned off Ollie Banks to bring in Ali Crawford on loan and now Banks has more goals than our entire squad this season. Every team in the league has scored at least double the amount of goals we have. Got to laugh really #TRFC— Zak Hayes (@ZakHayes6) September 11, 2021

I've watched every game this year and it's clear we have playing the wrong formation, and people out of position, midfield has been far too defensively set up, no pace out wide, and no threat up front with too many players that are not fit and passed there best, with no tempo #SWA— Gareth Hay (@GazzyHay) September 11, 2021

4 away games….2 points….0 goals….7 games into the season and every side we've played have looked better than us up to now. Can't say they didn't deserve to win. Rovers showed now ambition second half and were sunk late on #TRFC— Craig Perkins (@CraigPerkins17) September 11, 2021
