Tranmere hosted Sutton today in their latest fixture in the 2022/23 League Two season.
Ahead of the game, Micky Mellon said, “We’ve had a good little spell ourselves – two results over the last three games, so we’ll look forward to a tough game at home against Sutton. We have played away a lot recently, so it’s always nice to be back at Prenton Park.”
Barring the suspension of Paul Lewis, Mellon said that there were no other major injuries which would exclude players from the fixture, excluding those who are ruled out due to longer-term injuries.
Match Report: Tranmere Rovers v Sutton United
Tranmere had to settle for a draw at Prenton Park this afternoon as Sutton made it four games on the run without defeat.
It took just over ten minutes for the visitors to take the lead, through a shot from the centre of the box by Alistair Smith into the bottom right corner of Doohan’s net.
Just after 20 minutes, Kieron Morris saw his right-footed shot from outside the box inch over the Sutton crossbar and Kane Hemmings saw his 37th-minute effort saved by Sutton keeper, Jack Rose, in the top centre of the goal.
Five minutes before half time, Tranmere drew level via a Josh Hawkes shot from a tricky angle that defeated Rose and found its mark in the bottom right corner.
Coming from 1-0 down, Tranmere took the lead just before the hour mark, when Morris set up Hemmings who made his effort count with a shot from outside the Sutton box into the bottom left corner of the visitor’s net.
An incredibly bad error by Doohan meant that Tranmere had to settle for a share of the point, when just three minutes later, Smith scored his second of the game (and his second of the season) with a shot into the same spot of the Tranmere net as his first goal.
Tranmere host Walsall for a 3pm kick off on Saturday 14 January in their next game of the 2022/23 League Two season.

i’m sorry i don’t want to pick him out of a band bunch but Doohan has definitely cost us between 9-15 points this season goal after goal it’s a Scott Davies Regen #TRFC— Alfie Keating (@TrfcKeating) January 7, 2023

Always backed Doohan, as a young goalkeeper to improve and build confidence. After those recent performances he needs dropping and Mateusz Hewelt should be given an opportunity between the sticks. #SWA— Irvine (@Irvine_Heard) January 7, 2023

Bad start to the game for the rovers looked like Sutton was going to out run us and bully us but after 20 we came into the game then to go to 2-1 and concede a 2nd the way we did was gutting doohan should of done better but overall I would say good point probably fair result #SWA— Ray Cox (@RayC3785) January 7, 2023
