Tranmere hosted Gillingham yesterday for a 3pm kick-off in their third game of the 2022/23 season.
Ahead of the game, Micky Mellon said, “Gillingham will be well organised, we’ve watched a lot of them and they’re a strong team. The challenge is there for us again and they’ll be up for the challenge so we need to make sure we overcome that.
“We’re looking forward to it, we enjoy playing at home as I say all of the time. We’re trying to put something together now, a way of playing so we just need to get consistent at that from the start of the game and I’m sure we’ll be more than fine.
Match Report: Tranmere Rovers v Gillingham
Tranmere achieved their first win of the 2022/23 League Two season with an emphatic victory over Gillingham.
Elliott Nevitt, Ethan Bristow, and Josh Dacres-Cogley contributed the goals at a hot and sunny Prenton Park.
Tranmere very nearly took the lead with three minutes on the clock, when Kane Hemmings chipped Gillingham keeper Glenn Morris, but the ball rebounded off the crossbar.
At 18 minutes, Tranmere took the lead through an Elliot Nevitt goal. Chris Merrie played a pass through to Nevitt who made hit shot on goal count.
Nevitt almost doubled Rovers’ lead 10 minutes later when he saw his effort pass just inches wide after a low cross from Bristow.
Gillingham came out refreshed for the second half and were unlucky not to level the scoreline when a shot from Jordan Greencanoned off the left hand post.
Bristow increased Tranmere’s lead at 67 minutes when he hammered home a powerful shot in front of the Kop stand.
Tranmere sealed victory at the 75-minute mark, when a chaotic Gillingham defence gifted Dacres-Cogley a perfect opportunity that he didn’t turn down.
Rovers visit Hartlepool for a 7:45pm kick-off on Tuseday 16 August in their next 2022/23 League 2 fixture.

Superb today. To a man. Jameson take a bow. Turnbull provided composure and experience. Merrie makes me merry. If we didn’t know already (which we did) Bristow is a player. Enough said. Go again Tuesday. SWA! ⚪️🔵🤩 #SWA @TranmereRovers #TRFC— G_Miller (@__swa___) August 13, 2022
