Tranmere lose at struggling Crawley

Tranmere visited Crawley Town yesterday in their latest fixture in the 2022/23 League Two season.

Ahead of the game, Ian Dawes said, “First and foremost, you’ve got to win games of football at Tranmere, it doesn’t matter what stage of the season it is at, and the players are no different and we want to win for the fans.

“We’re going to Crawley on Saturday, we’ll take a good following as we always do and we’ll want to go and make sure that we win the game for them, however we play, we have an ideal way of playing and that’s to dominate the ball, but ultimately win games of football!”

With a home victory over Tranmere, Crawley Town secured their first win in five games and climbed out of the League Two relegation zone.

Ian Dawes’ team got off to a great start with Harvey Saunders finding the back of the net within the first eight minutes, making it his second goal in as many games for the club.

Nevertheless, Rovers found themselves trailing at half-time after Aramide Oteh and Jack Powell scored two goals in ten minutes of each other during the first half.

At the beginning of the match, Tom Davies made a great effort by blocking Dom Telford’s shot, and shortly after, Crawley’s forward attempted a long-range shot that landed on the roof of Mateusz Hewelt’s net.

Thirty minutes into the game, Crawley managed to equalize as Aramide Oteh fired a powerful right-footed shot from the left side of the box, which landed perfectly in the top right corner of Mateusz Hewelt’s goal.

Jordan Turnbull and Harvey Saunders attempted to regain the lead but were unable to do so as their shots were saved by Addai with skillful saves.

After almost taking the lead with Dom Telford’s deflected snapshot off Tom Davies, Scott Lindsey’s Crawley Town turned the tables on Rovers at the 40-minute mark.

A corner was delivered into the packed box, and Rovers failed to clear it, giving Joe Ransom the chance to head the ball across the goal, which Jack Powell took advantage of by flicking it past Mateusz Hewelt from a few yards away.

The second half began, and Regan Hendry and Kane Hemmings created a promising attack that released the ball to Chalmers. Unfortunately, the winger missed the target and fired the ball over the crossbar from inside the box.

In the 80th minute, Rovers had an opportunity to level the score from a penalty kick after Regan Hendry’s cross hit the arm of Mazeed Ongungbo.

Kane Hemmings missed the penalty for Rovers resulting in a pointless loss in Sussex.

Tranmere visit Rochdale for a 7:45pm kick off on Tuesday 18 April in their next game of the 2022/23 League Two season.
