Tranmere were made to work hard for a share of the points in last night’s fixture against a vocally supported Stockport County.

It was a drudging, slow start to the game with neither side apparently willing or able to get things moving. After that, it was a thoroughly uneventful first half.

To break the monotony, Kane Hemmings provided Tranmere’s only attempt at goal during the first half, but his 19th-minute shot from outside the box was saved in the centre of the goal by Stockport keeper, Ben Hinchliffe.

Rovers managed just four more attempts at goal in the remainder of the game. In this respect, the visitors were much more pro-active with 15 attempts at goal, but as befitting for the game, only managed to get two on target.

The second half was slightly more lively. Ethan Bristow tried a shot at goal from outside the box on 52 minutes, but his effort was blocked.

Five or so minutes later, Josh Dacres-Cogley had a go with a left footed shot from the right side of the box, but his attempt was too high.

Paul Lewis and Kieron Morris each had a stab at goal, but their efforts were fruitless.

It was only in added time at the end of the game that things started to get interesting, as Stockport piled on the pressure in what was a frenetic end to proceedings.

Stockport had no less than five attempts at goal in the four minutes of added time, with Tranmere bravely defending to take a share of the points. This left Rovers with just one defeat in the last nine, but only aq disappointing two points from their last three games, which were all home games.

Rovers visit Carlisle in the FA Cup on Saturday 5 November.
