Tranmere hold league leaders to a draw

Tranmere visited Forest Green Rovers this afternoon at the New Lawn for a 3pm kick-off, in their latest fixture of the 2021/22 League 2 season.

Ahead of today’s match, Micky Mellon said, “It’s going to be a very tough game. They’ve come out of the traps extremely well, they are at home, so it’s all for us to go and take up the challenge of competing against the league leaders.

“We’ll look forward to that challenge and it will give us another opportunity to benchmark ourselves against a team that are top of the league at the minute, so we’ll be able to see where we are up to in terms of as a group.

“It’s massively important that we make ourselves difficult to score against, so you need to do that to give you a better opportunity of winning games and keeping clean sheets, and we’ll keep working hard.

“It’s been a good week’s training and it’s always good to get a positive result.

Forest Green Rovers 0 – Tranmere Rovers 0

Tranmere Rovers held league leaders, Forest Green Rovers, to a 0-0 draw at the New Lawn stadium this afternoon.

Tranmere went down to ten men when Calum MacDonald was sent off for two bookable offences with minutes to go. Forest Green failed to capitalise on their man advantage and were held to a draw when the final whistle blew.

Both keepers were kept busy in the opening minutes when Josh Hawkes forced Luke McGee into a save and Jamille Matt struck a low drive, forcing Ross Doohan to earn his keep.

There was plenty of positive play from Tranmere and they went close to scoring at 23 minutes when a corner headed goalwards by Davies failed to find the back of the net.

Looking to break the stalemate, in the second half, Tranmere kept the pressure on, seeing attempts on goal from Morris and Davies.

MacDonald was shown a second yellow for a foul on Ebou Adams at the 86 minute mark, but they managed to hold on and secure a point from their visit to the New Lawn.

Tranmere host Crawley Town at Prenton Park in their next League 2 fixture on Saturday 2 October for a 3pm kick-off.
