Tranmere fight back to secure a draw at Bristol

Tranmere visited the Memorial Stadium this afternoon for a 3pm kick-off against Bristol Rovers, in their latest fixture of the 2021/22 League 2 season.

Ahead of today’s game, Micky Mellon said, “I’ve seen a progress even in the weekends we’ve lost games, we’re still moving forward. What we’ve got to do is try and establish a way of playing, establish a way of trying to create chances and score goals, establish a way of trying to keep clean sheets and keep an eye on that with personnel or the team shape.

“We look at that with an evidence-based eye and find out is it working and that’s what we’re able to do and that’s what we’ll always do. So, we’ll tweak and look at maybe trying to do different things to try and become a bit more of an attacking threat and play things a wee bit differently to see if that works for us.

“We’ve worked on it this week and the proof of the pudding will be how we perform at it this weekend.”

Tranmere fought back from 2-0 down to secure a 2-2 draw at Bristol Rovers this afternoon.

It was Bristol who were quicker off the blocks as they opened the scoring in the fifth minute of the game. A free-kick into the Tranmere box was half-cleared before a ball towards the back post was headed over Doohan and into the Tranmere goal by Josh Grant.

Micky Mellon’s side fought back hard and goals from Callum MacDonald and Paul Glatzel earned them a share of the points.

Bristol were two up after 22 minutes when Nicholson rocketed a shot within the six-yard box into the top corner of Tranmere’s net from an Antony Evans corner.

Bristol deserved their two-goal lead, but Tranmere were battled to pull one back just three minutes later. MacDonald turned at the back post and curled the ball past Belshaw.

With 15 minutes left of normal time, Tranmere drew level. Josh Hawkes’ corner from the right was headed by Paul Glatzel who powered it home into the bottom left corner.

Tranmere host Bradford City in their next League 2 fixture at 7:45pm on Tuesday 23 November.
