Tranmere Rovers extended their unbeaten run to four league matches, securing a 2-2 draw against Mansfield Town.

Tranmere took the lead twice, with Charlie Jolley opening the scoring after a precise pass from Harvey Saunders, resulting in a well-placed finish below Christy Pym.

Mansfield Town equalized when Rhys Oates found the back of the net before halftime. However, Tranmere Rovers regained the lead in the 62nd minute, courtesy of Rob Apter’s composed finish, marking his fifth goal of the campaign.

Will Swan equalized for the home team with a deflected shot with ten minutes remaining. In added time, Jordan Turnbull received a red card for his second bookable offence, but Nigel Adkins’ team successfully secured a point.

Tranmere had early opportunities, with Apter setting up Brad Walker whose shot, although comfortable for Pym, went closest. Kieron Morris also curled a shot over the goal.

The visitors took the lead after 12 minutes. Saunders controlled the ball, providing a precise through pass to Jolley, who raced through and calmly fired low beyond the goalkeeper.

Apter had opportunities as Tranmere aimed to increase their lead. He curled a shot into Pym’s gloves, and then, when a free kick was headed his way, he volleyed over from a distance.

Mansfield gained momentum in the first half, and captain Aden Flint had a superb opportunity to equalize with a free header from a corner, but his attempt went wide.

As the clock reached 30 minutes, Oates drilled wide. Rovers launched a counter shortly after, but Pym thwarted Saunders in a one-on-one situation with a terrific double save.

In the 37th minute, Oates equalized for the hosts. Jordan Bowery made a charging run down the right and squared the ball for the forward, who clinically finished from close range.

As the half-time whistle sounded, Luke McGee was alert to deny Davis Keillor-Dunn. When the second half began, Tranmere regained control and swiftly took the lead. Walker once again connected with Apter, providing a through ball to the winger. The Blackpool loanee turned inside and found the corner with a low effort, securing his fifth goal of the season.

Mansfield made an immediate attempt to respond, with Oates cutting onto his left foot and narrowly curling wide of the far corner.

Swan joined the action, heading over from a corner, and McGee turned behind a well-placed effort from Ollie Clarke in the box.

However, the hosts secured their second equalizer of the evening with ten minutes remaining. Swan unleashed a shot from the edge of the box, and a deflection guided the ball into the net.

Tranmere absorbed pressure from the Stags in the latter stages. Aaron Lewis narrowly curled over with a free kick in injury time, and Turnbull received a second yellow card and was sent off.

Manager Adkins brought in Joe Yarney and Jean Belehouan to strengthen the back-line in Turnbull’s absence. The team held on until full-time, securing a point to take back to Wirral.

Tranmere host Newport County on Saturday 9 December for their next game of the 2023/24 League Two season.
