Tranmere visited Stockport County today in their latest fixture in the 2022/23 League Two season.
Ahead of the game, Micky Mellon said, “I want this to be said in the right way, but Stockport have heavily invested in their group.
“To be fair to Dave [Challinor], he’s invested very well – a bit differently to what we had to do when we came up – but he’s brought in good players, and you can see that when you watch them play.
“You can see with the results they get and where they are in the league that it will be a tough place to go and I’m really looking forward to it – we are taking a big following, Stockport have good fans – it will be close to a full house, and we have to go there and perform.”

Tranmere’s trip up the M56 ended in a close defeat today as they lost 3-2 to Stockport.
Tranmere came off the blocks brightly and at the three-minute mark, Lee O’Connor’s shot from outside the box was the first test for the Stockport keeper, who did well to save the low ball.
Following a couple of attempts at goal from Stockport’s Myles Hippolyte and Neil Byrne, a header from Kyle Knoyle in the centre of the box nestled neatly in the bottom left corner of the Tranmere goal.
Stockport tried a number of times to increase their advantage before Akil Wright conceded a penalty that was coolly converted by Kane Hemmings four minutes before half time.
However, the parity lasted only minutes, as Kyle Wooton’s header found the centre of Mateusz Hewelt’s goal just before the half time whistle blew.
Tranmere ever so nearly drew the score level again, when a shot from the left side of the box hit the Stockport crossbar just after the hour mark.
Then at 78 minutes, a shot from the host’s Will Collar from the centre of the Tranmere box found its way to the bottom right corner of Hewelt’s goal, after the Tranmere keeper made a poor punched attempt at a clearance.
Tranmere fought on and despite a Kieron Morris goal with six minutes left on the clock, the 1597 travelling fans had to settle for the loss.
Tranmere visit Doncaster Rovers for a 3pm kick off on Tuesday 7 February in their next game of the 2022/23 League Two season.
