Tranmere hosted Colchester United this evening at Prenton Park for a 7:45pm kick-off, in their latest fixture of the 2021/22 League 2 season.
Before tonight’s match, Micky Mellon expressed his happiness at Rovers’ recent run of form and his hope that they will continue to improve.
“It’s good that we are where we are but we still believe that we can get better. We still want to keep improving and that will happen with time, as relationships will build and grow and from that, the performances will get better. So we’ll continue to keep getting better.”
“We feel we’re in a good place at the minute, but we still know that it’s going to take a lot of hard work to stay there and to keep moving it forward. We’ll keep pushing it all the time in order to keep trying to improve.”

Tranmere Rovers 2 – Colchester United 0
Tranmere continued their home win streak with tonight’s 2-0 win over Colchester making it four home wins on the trot.
Colchester’s Shamal George made a great save at 16 minutes, to deny a Tom Davies diving header which George saved from a right-hand side corner.
Freddie Sears saw his 40th-minute attempt at goal denied by Ross Doohan at the near post.
The first half concluded with Josh Hawkes hitting a half volley from the edge of the box just wide of Colchester’s left hand post.
In a fast-starting second half, a towering header from Davies landed against the bar as keeper George was left starstruck.
Hawkes notched his first league goal for the club at 54 minutes, giving Rovers a deserved lead, when his 20-yard shot took a deflection into the back of the net.
Clarke’s head was kept busy, when he bagged his third goal in two league games, doubling Tranmere’s advantage with a powerful header into the top left corner of the Colchester goal with 71 minutes on the clock
Tranmere continued strongly to the end and Colchester failed to find the back of Doohan’s net as the final whistle blew.
Tranmere visit Carlisle United on Saturday 16 October in their next League 2 fixture for a 3pm kick-off.
