Tranmere comfortably beat Salford City

Tranmere hosted Salford this afternoon at the Prenton Park for a 3pm kick-off, in their latest fixture of the 2021/22 League 2 season.

Ahead of today’s match, Micky Mellon said, “We’re definitely moving in the right direction, and I definitely know the type of football that I want to play, and we’re still working with the players to try and do that.

“We are very good defensively, very strong and resolute and those kinds of qualities can help us get better with the creating and scoring of chances.

“There’s a process that we have to go through to create more chances. We have to get the right team shape and system in order to do that.”

Tranmere Rovers 2 – Salford City 0

Elliott Nevitt’s first professional league goal and a first-half goal from Keiron Morris secured a 2-0 win for Tranmere Rovers against Salford City this afternoon at Prenton Park.

Both teams were reduced to ten men, when Ibou Touray and then Jay Spearing, were both dismissed with straight red cards in separate incidents in the first 45.

It was an up-tempo start by Rovers and in the 13th minute, Salford defender Liam Shephard handled in the penalty area. Salford keeper, Tom King, saved Kieren Morris’ penalty kick, but with sharp wit, fired the rebound into the net.

In scoring his first professional league goal, Elliot Nevitt increased Rovers’ lead with an ‘old school’ diving header.

Salford nearly brought one back straight after, when Brandon Asante fired a strong attempt at goal from 20 yards, which Ross Doohan dealt with easily.

Tranmere controlled the remainder of the game to secure a second back to back home victory and a second win in three matches.

Tranmere visit league leaders Forest Green Rovers in their next League 2 fixture on Saturday 25 September for a 3pm kick-off.
