Tranmere hosted Crawley Town this afternoon at Prenton Park for a 3pm kick-off, in their latest fixture of the 2021/22 League 2 season.
Ahead of today’s match, Micky Mellon said, “It will be a tough game. All the games are tough and very tight. We are coming up against some really good sides and I expect the same on Saturday.“You are getting players now who are coming through the academies, and they are playing consistent football at this level, and they have been brought up to play this way.
“This is a tough league and the standard of football that is getting played in this league is as good as I’ve ever seen.
“Some of the passing, movement and the organisation and the standard of players is as good as it’s ever been since I’ve been a manager.
“But in terms of our club and the environment, I’m really pleased.”

Tranmere Rovers climbed their way to eighth place in League Two as they beat Crawley Town at Prenton Park this afternoon.
Stand-in Captain Peter Clarke bagged two headers that heard Prenton Park roar in delight and ensuring that Roved took all three points.
Tranmere’s Callum McManaman had an early attempt on goal, with only two minutes on the clock, but his shot went just over the bar. Shortly afterwards, Sam Ashford rattled the top left corner of the crossbar for Crawley.
The home side were the stronger of the two teams, especially during the first half, but became a little jittery in the second half with a few mistakes and failing to fully take advantage during their attacks.
The score was levelled at 64 minutes when a Crawley shot was saved by Ross Doohan, but the rebound fell perfectly at the feet of substitute Kwesi Appiah who tapped the ball into the net.
Peter Clarke’s second was a scrappy affair in the build-up, but was sure and straight into the net from Clarke’s head.
Tranmere visit Salford City on Tuesday 5 October in the EFL Trophy and host Colchester United at Prenton Park in their next League 2 fixture on Friday 8 October for a 7:45pm kick-off.
