Guests from across the borough attended a celebratory International Women’s Day event at Tomorrow’s Women Wirral, with guest speaker Wirral Council leader Janette Williamson.
The Birkenhead-based charity helps women with a range of problems including those who have struggled with domestic abuse, mental health or financial problems.
It gives women access to services including confidence and self-esteem programmes, basic maths and English courses, courses in CV writing, and stress and debt management.
The project was set up in 2011 to work with women in or on the periphery of the Criminal Justice System by providing tailored interventions to prevent offending and support women to make positive lifestyle changes.
Due to the success and growth of the women-only Project, Tomorrow’s Women became a registered Charity in 2012 and moved into accommodation situated in central Birkenhead, and this year opened a second site in Chester.
Women can be assured that they will be supported quickly, in confidence and by trained staff. The charity is available to any adult woman aged 18+ to benefit from support completely free of charge.
Labour leader Cllr Williamson said, “It was a real honour to be asked to speak at this event. I talked about my own journey from single parent to council leader, but mostly I just listened to the amazing women and their incredible stories. I can’t think of a better way to mark International Women’s Day.”
