Toddling the Wirral coast for Claire House

One-year-old Ted is toddling the Wirral Coastal Walk on Sunday 22 May in support of Claire House Children’s Hospice.

Claire House was inspired by Ted’s auntie, Claire Cain, and now Ted is supporting the hospice by taking part in the annual walk with his mum and dad, Samantha and Kevin.

The Wirral Coastal Walk is organized by The Rotary Club of North Wirral and sees thousands of people walk the 12.5mile coastal route from New Brighton to Thursaston Country Park. The first walk was organized in 1986 and has grown in popularity since.

Claire House was conceived as an idea in the early 1990’s when Claire’s mum and dad, Chris and Bobby, along with other local families, started to raise funds to build a much-needed children’s hospice in the area following the devasting death of Claire.

Claire had a tumour behind her nose and eye, and after several years, passed away aged nine in 1989. Her family finally raised the money to build and open Claire House in 1998.

Claire House is now looking after more local children than ever before and need the support of the local community to ensure that the charity is always there to support local families whenever and wherever they are needed.

Ted’s mum Samantha said, “Ted will walk as far as his little legs will take him, and he’ll have rests in his pram too. It’s a charity that is extremely close to his and our hearts as his auntie Claire inspired the hospice which now supports so many local children.”

Event Fundraiser Mark said, “The Wirral Coastal Walk is a vital annual event, where the local community can take part and raise much-needed funds for charities close to the hearts. Without the support of people like Ted, we simply wouldn’t be able to care for as many children and families that we currently are. Everyone at Claire House wants to wish Ted good luck and thank him for his support!”
