Three charged following attack in pub following Derby game

Three individuals, two adult males and one teenage male, have been charged after an assault at a pub on Walton Road last year.

At around 9pm on Sunday 24 April 2022 after the Liverpool vs Everton FC match that afternoon officers received a report that a group of masked Everton supporters carrying bottles and crutches entered the pub on Walton Road where an altercation took place and customers were assaulted. Damage was also caused to the premises.

After extensive CCTV enquires, three men were identified and interviewed by police officers.

John Murray aged 32 of Kirkby, Thomas Keane of Tower Hill and one boy aged 17 from Liverpool were charged with affray. They will appear at South Sefton Magistrates Court on 27 February 2023.

Ahead of the Liverpool vs Everton FC match today, Monday 13 February 2023, Merseyside Police will use specialist resources such as the mounted, drone unit, and helicopter to help make the event a safe and enjoyable football match for all, but can also be used to capture any evidence of any persons who wish to act in a disorderly or criminal manner.   

Match Commander Chief Supt Matthew Boyle said, “We are committed to supporting both Liverpool and Everton football clubs in the delivery of a safe event and ensuring that the local community has as little disruption other than what is normally experienced on a match day. 

“We have a significant policing operation in place and will be focused on ensuring the safety of supporters.”
