Three arrests after shots fired in Wavertree

Police have confirmed that officers are this afternoon, Friday 17 December, in the Wavertree area following reports of shots being fired.

We were contacted at 11.55am by a member of the public reporting that a gun had been fired in Wellington Road.

Nobody has come forward to report being injured and there are no reports of damage to any buildings or vehicles.

A male and two females have been arrested on suspicion of possession of a section one firearm. They are all currently in custody where they will be questioned by detectives.

An investigation is underway and house-to-house, CCTV and forensic enquiries are being carried out in the local area.

Chief Inspector Gary O’Rourke said, “We are in the very early stages of an investigation to establish exactly what has taken place. If you were in the area, passing by or live locally, you could help by passing on any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage.

“When communities stand strong and pass on information, to us or via other channels, we can make these safer places to live and work, and ensure those who would endanger the public are put behind bars. Gun crime in Merseyside has fallen dramatically in the past few years, due in no small part to those people prepared to speak to us, directly or anonymously. However you choose to tell us, please come forward.”
