The Hive celebrates 4 years of supporting thousands of young people with birthday fundraising event

The 8th of April marks 4 years since Wirral’s young people were invited to join ‘The Hive’ a new charity with a mission to make a positive difference and change the lives of its young members.

Throughout their birthday month, they are asking members of the public to support them in their ‘4th Birthday 40k Challenge’ – with a goal of each participant raising at least £40 through sponsorship, by walking, cycling or running a distance of 40k.

The Hive Youth Zone provides a safe and inspirational place where young people can make productive use of their leisure time. Through targeted youth work and an extensive sports, arts and music offer, The Hive has raised aspirations, improved health and enhanced prospects for local young people. As a charity Youth Zone relies on donations from supporters to fund their vital youth work.

A young member at The Hive said, “The Hive has changed my life. I love the range of activities that are on each night – it changed me and the way I am to a much better person. It’s got me off the streets and doing stuff with my life.”

Through the pandemic, the charity has been a lifeline for young people and families across Wirral. The team have risen to each new challenge and found innovative ways to engage with young people isolated at home.

Since the beginning of lockdown they have provided and delivered fresh hot meals, food hampers, arts and crafts packs, toiletries, sanitary products, increased outreach work as well as mentoring and one to one support, and moved activity sessions online. Following their child receiving support from the hive, parents and families thanked the charity for ‘brightening up their week’ and giving their son or daughter a ‘reason to smile.’

Heather Anderson from The Hive fundraising team said, “We have so much to be proud of as we look back on a fantastic four years! We have seen how young people’s lives have been changed through the support of our Youth Zone, and how with the help of a youth worker our members really have been able to reach their personal goals and achieve incredible things! We hope that this fundraising challenge will inspire everyone to get involved and join us as we celebrate this birthday and the amazing achievements of the young people of Wirral.”
