Teenager charged following city centre assault that leaves man in ‘critical condition’

Detectives have charged a teenager in connection with a serious assault in Liverpool City Centre on Tuesday, 30 April. 

At around 9pm, it was reported that a man aged in his 30s had been assaulted on Temple Street and sustained a significant head injury.

Emergency services attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

A 17-year-old boy from Huyton, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has now been charged with Section 18 assault (Grievous Bodily Harm); Criminal Damage; and Possession of Cannabis. He was remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Youth Court on Friday, 3 May.

A 30-year-old man from Stockbridge Village, who was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault, has been conditionally bailed.

Detective Inspector Steve Street said, “Although we have charged a male in connection with this incident, our enquiries continue and we want to hear from anyone who has information to assist.

“Violence will not be tolerated in our vibrant city centre or anywhere across Merseyside, and we work closely with businesses and partners to ensure that any such crimes are robustly investigated. 

“Our officers regularly patrol busy night-time locations, so speak to us if you have any concerns or incidents to report.”
