Targeted attack shooting incident near Birkenhead Park

Detectives are appealing for information after shots were fired at a house in Birkenhead last night, Monday 19 July.

Officers were called to Hartington Road following reports of shots being fired at an address. Damage was found to an upstairs window of the house, but no injuries were reported.

It is believed that the house was targeted and witnesses report that several offenders unsuccessfully tried to cut through the front door before the shots were fired. They then escaped in a BMW.

Crime scene investigators are carrying out forensic examinations at the scene and officers are conducting house-to-house inquiries in the area. Patrols have also been stepped up to reassure the local community.

Detective Inspector John Fitzgerald from our Firearms Investigation Team said, “We’re keen to speak to anyone who may be able to help us with our inquiries. Whether you saw or heard the incident or anyone making off, check your CCTV, dashcam or other devices and come forward.

“It appears that this was a targeted attack on a sunny evening when residents would have been out and about, thankfully the reckless actions of these individuals did not result in anyone being injured. If you have any information at all which could help us get these offenders off the streets I would urge you to contact us as soon as possible.”

If you have any information please contact our social media desk on Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ with any information, with reference 1183 of 19 July.
