Sustainability success for Magenta Living

Magenta Living has recently been recognised for its Climate Change Vision and future carbon zero goals.

Magenta Living has increased its SHIFT (Sustainable Homes Index for Tomorrow) rating from Silver to Gold due to its continued sustainability efforts.

Organisational accreditation partner, SUSS Housing, who administers SHIFT, confirmed that Magenta Living is only one of seven housing associations nationally to achieve this status.

Feedback has shown that Magenta Living scored particularly well in the areas of strategic thinking, environmental initiatives, increasing work around new build homes, their offices and operations as well as their work within their Building Services Team in the form of responsibly sourced materials, recycling and emissions.

Magenta Living also received the fantastic news that it has been successful in securing a group funding bid of over £11 million from the Government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Funding, of which Magenta Living’s part will be circa £1.6 million, to improve nearly 1,250 homes across the Liverpool City Region.

Collaborating with eight other local housing providers has meant that Magenta Living can deliver sustainable improvements to over 160 of its homes across two of its 21 Wirral neighbourhoods identified as the highest areas of fuel poverty.

The improvements will be `fabric first` to keep the property insulated, increase heat retention, reduce energy usage and help create a saving of both carbon emissions and fuel usage for the customer. All homes will be retrofitted with fabric first measures that will ensure EPC Band C is achieved.
The Government has pledged £179 million to help over 20,000 social housing customers and they plan to extend the scheme over the next few years to around £800 million.

Ian Thomson, Magenta Living’s Executive Director of Asset Management said, “I am absolutely delighted with this positive news.

“To achieve a Gold SHIFT rating is a huge achievement, especially as we are one of only seven housing associations nationally to receive this accolade. To have come from zero to Gold in 16 months is amazing. Everyone at Magenta Living is totally committed to sustainability and this shows a great team effort.

“Securing the funding bid is another huge success for us. This project will significantly improve the lives of our customers who need it the most, given the challenge many are facing due to rising energy costs. We’re also looking forward to working in partnership with the other housing providers to improve over 1,000 homes across the Liverpool City Region, making them more energy-efficient and affordable, all of which is central to our Vision of providing Vibrant… homes, lives, neighbourhoods.”
