The Christopher Salmon Poetry Competition for 2023 is now accepting submissions, thanks to the collaborative efforts of The Christopher Salmon Foundation, Wirral Poetry Festival, and Wirral Libraries.
The event’s previous year was a resounding triumph, attracting over 500 entries.
In memory of Chris Salmon, a poetry enthusiast and former Calday Grammar School student who tragically died at the age of 15 from a rare streptococcal infection in February 2009, the annual poetry competition was established in 2010.
This year’s competition is centred around the theme of “Sunshine” and is open to Wirral residents aged 19 or under who are currently enrolled in full-time education. Entrants may participate free of charge, and cash prizes of £100 will be presented to the champions of each of the five age groups.
The Christopher Salmon Foundation was set up in 2009 and has so far raised over £66,000 in Christopher’s memory. Further details can be seen on the charity’s website www.chrissalmon.org.uk
