Stockport Town crush Cammell Laird 5-0

Despite the efforts of captain Ryan Smith, Ross Waring, Joe Downey, and goalkeeper Sten-Marek Orumaa, who was an easy man of the match, Cammell Laird 1907 FC suffered one of their worse defeats of the season at the hands of divisional leaders Stockport Town.

An even opening 20 minutes soon changed in a four-minute spell as Dan McLaughlin (21 mins) and Scott McGowan (25 mins) put Town 2-0 ahead and when McLaughlin netted again on 38 minutes the points looked to be destined only one way.

With a 3-0 lead at the break Town soon had Lairds backtracking and McLaughlin completed his hat-trick in the 61st minute. From then until the final goal by Will Shawcross in the 82nd minute, keeper Orumaa kept the score line down with some excellent saves as the home team exposed a tiring Lairds team.

The few sorties forward created by Mike Speed and Richard Wincer were too few for Lairds and Town enjoyed their 5-0 success that keeps them on course for promotion.

Next Saturday (25 February), Lairds have a very important home fixture versus lowly Rocester, who they beat only four weeks ago, and a victory is expected to ease the threat of relegation. Kick off is at 2.00pm.
