Spectator viewing returns to Aintree at Liverpool Motor Club’s car sprint

After an absence of two years due to COVID-19 restrictions, Liverpool Motor Club is now able to allow spectators to access the Circuit Viewing Areas again for their first Sprint of the 2022 season.

Highly Experienced Local Driver, Steve Cole, also returns to the Aintree Circuit to contest the Liverpool Motor Club Speed Championship in his Classic ‘Cortina Lotus’.

Former works TVR driver Steve Cole has successfully competed in an extensive range of National & Local Motorsport events over many years and on Saturday 30 April he’ll be racing again at Aintree.

The event at Aintree is a sprint (a time trial) on the historic circuit, which held five Formula 1 Grand Prix in the 1950s and ‘60s.

Steve is a highly respected racing drivers’ coach and he will be competing at Aintree in his pristine Lotus Cortina which he first drove in 2018 when he scored a superb class win at the Gold Cup race meeting at Oulton Park.

This award-winning historic FIA Cortina has a considerable motorsport pedigree.

In previous owner’s hands, it was a successful classic rally car in the early 1990s before going on to finish second in that year’s Manx Historic Rally, with an overall win the following year.

It scored class wins, on the 1994 National Britannia Rally, and 1995 Ypres Rally in Belgium, followed by an extensive campaign of European rallies including the Monte Carlo Historique, Le Jog, Tulpen Rallye, Classic Marathon, Rally of the Tests with numerous top-twenty places and class wins.

The car went circuit racing until 2006 before being treated to an extensive restoration to the body shell. It has since had a ‘no expense spared’ mechanical rebuild to FIA Historic Touring Car specification. The car is simply immaculate and this will be its first time in competition at Aintree.
