Merseyside Police is introducing a Section 60 in the Birkenhead, Noctorum and Beechwood area today, Tuesday 30 November following recent incidents of violence in the area.
The order runs from 4pm today until 6am tomorrow (Wednesday 1 December) and extra officers will be in the area to provide a visible presence and deal with any incidents.
The Section 60 covers the area bounded in the map and includes: the boundary of A552 to the M53 Junction, M53 Motorway to the junction of A5139, A5139 to the Dock Road, Dock Road to the Seacombe waterfront, Seacombe waterfront to the A552 and all streets and locations found within these boundaries.
The Order, under S60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, gives officers enhanced stop and search powers to stop males aged 14-35 in the area (pictured) and is designed to minimise serious violence.
Community Policing Inspector Jordan Quinn said, “We’re introducing this Section 60 as an extra response to deal with reports of violence in the area, a place which should be safely enjoyed by all. This is one of a number of measures we are taking to disrupt those who would consider bringing weapons onto our streets.
“This behaviour will not be tolerated and extra officers will be in the area to search any individuals or groups causing such issues, and to provide reassurance to the vast majority of law-abiding people in the community.
“Such action isn’t about bothering anyone going about their daily business, or preventing young people from meeting with friends. It’s simply about taking action to reduce violence and make sure that everyone can feel safe where they live.
“Rest assured, you can pass any information about anti-social behaviour and violence in your community to us and we will take action.”
