Second man charged in connection with fatal Norris Green collision

Detectives have charged a second man as part of an investigation into a fatal road traffic collision in Norris Green in February.

At 6.27pm on Sunday, 25 February, emergency services were called to a report of a pedestrian sustaining serious injuries after being involved in collision with a Ford Transit van being driven on Utting Avenue East.

The victim, John Newton, 81, sadly passed away in hospital the following day.

Patrick Heron, 37, of Mossley Hill, has now been charged with Attempting to pervert the course of justice. Heron will appear at Wirral Adult Remand Court on Wednesday, 10 April.

A 40-year-old man from Walton was also arrested earlier this week on suspicion of assisting an offender. He has been conditionally bailed pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Steve Street said, “This investigation is very much ongoing, and we have now charged two men in connection with the death of Mr Newton.

“Please come forward if you hold any information to assist, however small a detail you think it is, and we will continue to take action.”
