Merseyside Police has sent out a warning to Wirral residents following reports of suspected bogus door-to-door sellers.
The scam involves people cold-calling local residents while posing as ex-offenders on an alleged Probation Service organised scheme going door to door selling items.
Other rogue traders have also posed as ex-service personnel. The most recent reports are from the Hoylake and West Kirby areas but police have had similar reports from other parts of the Wirral.
A police spokesperson said, “Residents ought not to engage with these individuals who often charge extortionate amounts for basic and very low quality household pound store items.”
Merseyside Police has spoken to their colleagues in the Merseyside Community Rehabilitation Company (CRC) and they advise that there are no schemes that have ex-offenders going door to door selling wares.
